Millikin-Decatur Symphony Orchestra's acclaimed Mahler cycle continues with the unique and expansive Third Symphony, a concert (with intermission) unto itself. Mahler's Third has it all, including a huge orchestra, texts from Nietzsche and folk poetry, and offstage voices, bells, posthorn, and percussion. In this vast expanse, MDSO is joined by mezzo soprano Helen M. Gibbons, and the Millikin Women and Millikin Concert Youth Chorale, both directed by Beth Holmes.

This annual non-competitive festival features high school bands from around Central Illinois. Each band performs twenty minutes of repertoire followed by a critique from Millikin University faculty with helpful comments on advancing the band to the next performance level. The free festival is a perfect opportunity to hear a variety of area concert bands perform. Come and go as you please.

Neil Simon’s Brighton Beach Memoirs is a coming-of-age comedy set in Brooklyn during the 1930’s. Our narrator, Eugene Jerome, is a precocious 15 year old coming to terms with puberty, girls, and changing family dynamics within a changing world. The first part of an autobiographical trilogy including Biloxi Blues and Broadway Bound, Simon’s work is a hilarious and moving story of a family working to make ends meet between the Great Depression and the beginning of World War II.
